1. Pangot & Kilbury Bird Sanctuary

Located at an altitude of around 8000 feet, the Pangot and Kilbury Bird Sanctuary is a bird watcher’s paradise. There are innumerable species that inhabit the place. The forest is surrounded by lush green trees of pine, oak and rhododendrons. There are around 580 species of birds that inhabit the area.

2. Jungle Lore Birding Lodge, Pangot

This birding cottage is just 15km from Nainital. It is located in a remote Himalayan village, a paradise for birds. Around 259 species of birds can easily be spotted here. One can reach this area from Cheena Peak Range via Snow View Point and Kilbury. The forest area is dominated by Oak, Pine and Rhododendron. This area becomes more beautiful because of a stream passing by. Leopard Cat, Serow, Wild Boar, Red Fox etc. are the wild animals that can be spotted among the birds.

3. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

A place known for impressive sunrise and sunset is Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is also known for its abundant display of flora and fauna. 4. Sattal

It is small lush green forest comprises of seven lakes is inhabited by wild animals and birds. Close by lakes of Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal are also there. These places are about 25 km from Kathgodam railway station. Birds like bulbuls, pigeons, warblers, woodpeckers, minivets, mynas and barbets can easily be spotted among the others. Around 400 species of birds can be spotted around Sattal, Naukuchiatal and Bhimtal.




5. Ramgarh (Bhallar Village)

Ramgarh is another beautiful forest full of lush green hills with spectacular snow covered mountains. This town is poularly known as the fruit bowl of Kumaon because of its delicious fruit orchards with huge forests and a number of trekking trails. This area is known to have huge number of species of birds. It is quite easy to spot Mynahs, Woodpeckers, Jungle-fowls, and Blue Whistling Thrushes along with many others. So, you must get ready to visit this area along with your cameras and binoculars.


6. Mahesh Khan this place is located at a distance of 22km from Bhowali, a place between Ramgarh and Nainital. This area is inhabited by chir, pines and oak trees. A variety of birds are found because of rich flora and fauna. There are a number of birding trails that dominate the area. Woodpecker Hill Partridge, Black Eagle, Mountain Hawk Eagle, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, Spotted Forktail, Black-faced Warbler, Racket-tailed Drongo, Mountain Bulbul, Rusty-tailed Flycatcher, Blue-winged Minla, White-cheeked Nuthatch are the main species found here.
